I support the Kentucky NewGas Energy Center and encourage the State of Kentucky to grant the necessary air permit. This project, proposed by Peabody Energy and ConocoPhillips will be located in Muhlenberg County near Central City, Kentucky and will combine the collaborative efforts of both companies to produce clean energy from secure, domestic sources.
I BELIEVE this facility should be given an air permit from the State of Kentucky because…
- Kentucky NewGas meets all state regulatory standards to protect the environment and meets all of the conditions required by law to obtain an air permit from the State of Kentucky. This facility would use proven technology, which would minimize environmental impacts and would produce less than 5 percent of the emissions of a comparably sized coal plant.
- it addresses many of the country’s energy concerns by directly contributing to America’s energy security and increasing our domestic supply of clean natural gas by 60-70 billion cubic feet per year.
- this multi-billion dollar project will produce true economic stimulus and provide a major economic benefit to the region and the state by creating 1,200 construction and 500 long-term jobs, while also providing up to $100 million annually in local and state economic impact through wages, taxes and other benefits.
THEREFORE, I encourage the state to grant the Kentucky NewGas Energy Center an air permit.
